Nowhere is there a medieval city that smells sweeter than Flavigny-sur-Ozerain! The scent is in every alleyway all the way to the Benedictine Abbey, the only place the Anis are made.
This little sweet has been made since 1591 according to the same recipe , and each aniseed is still patiently coated in thin layers of delicately flavoured syrup. The family run business has been making the little sweet with a hidden aniseed at its heart for more than four centuries, making it one of the oldest brands in France.
Just 3 ingredients : a tiny green aniseed is patiently covered in successive coats of sugar syrup. it takes a confectioner 15 days to turn a two-milligram aniseed into a one-gram Anis sweet, using natural flavours to enhance their taste; mint, violet, orange blossom, rose, lemon, ginger and the list goes on!
Why not step inside the abbey and see for yourself the only place on earth where Anis is made? A delicious and richly historical experience awaits, between the manufacturing process and the crypt, the museum, the old workshops, our flavours factory and our boutique where you can taste before you buy!
Les Anis de Flavigny have been awarded the "Site Remarquable du Gout" (most remarkable flavours site) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Culture and Tourisme in 2012, and the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (living heritage buisiness) in 2017.
Visiting Flavigny is discovering one of the "most beautiful villages of France" with its unique and historic heritage, set in the heart of l'Auxois in Burgundy.
